Pumpkins are an essential accessory for Halloween. Last year we took Jack to a farm where he selected his own pumpkin. He was amazed that it grew from a seed. Gardening is a joy that Jack has embraced, so when we carved last year’s pumpkin we held back a few seeds and placed them in an envelope to plant in Spring. To be honest, I was not sure if our non-ground-based garden would be able to handle a plant as large and as thirsty as pumpkin, but lo it has!
It may not be the largest or best shaped pumpkin, but it was grown 100% by Jack in a foot deep container garden and he’s thrilled. We’ve been watching it for months and this weekend we finally cut it.
His pride cannot be measured in words. It sits place-of-honour on our piano and he points it out with beaming face to all who come through our front door. Even the meter-reader gave Jack a high-five because he could see how important and exciting it is for Jack. As he tells everyone,

I love the display on the piano! Will you make a pie with Jack’s prized pumpkin after Halloween?
Thanks for the suggestion! It would not make a very big pie though!
I’m not sure what Jack will want to do, he’s in awe of it whole so we may just leave it that way for the duration of Autumn.
You have a beautiful family.
