On Rosh Hashanah Jewish women all over the world light candles, just as we do for Shabbat. We have so much to be thankful for, to recognize on this special night! If you’re new to all of this, I thought it would be useful to help you along. So this is what you do:
Just as is done for shabbat, you’re going to put out tea lights in safe holders to represent every member of your immediate family. The head woman in the home will light them. This is what you say:
Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to light the candles today. May it be Your will that you bestow on us a sweet and good new year.
Then in Hebrew:
Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-hei-nu Me-lech Ha-olam Asher Kideshanu Bemitzvotav Vetzivanu Lehadlik Ner Shel Yom Hazikaron.
Amen!
Be sure after your candles are lit, to wish all of your family and friends a happy, sweet and good new year! Shana Tova everyone!
